Dear CrossFit Fondren community,
Words cannot express how excited we are to announce that we will be reopening the gym on Monday, May 18th! This has been a strange and eye-opening experience for us over the past several weeks. While we are not back to “normal,” opening our doors does get us one step closer!
We want to first thank every one of you for your support and your patience as we worked through the move to a virtual gym setting while working to provide you the same quality of programming and coaching that you would expect in our gym. This support has only confirmed what we already knew -- our community is the BEST. Hands down. So, thank you!
However, the state of Mississippi and the city of Jackson have set certain standards that must be followed. We will be meeting every one of those standards and even going beyond some of them to ensure that you can feel comfortable and safe to workout in class.
What We Are Doing
We will be deep cleaning the gym to make sure it is ready for classes Monday morning. This includes sanitizing the floor, all equipment, all bathrooms, and any other surfaces that you might come into contact with while attending classes.
Everyday, all equipment used in the workout will be sanitized with an EPA approved disinfectant after each class. At the end of each day, all surfaces and equipment will be sanitized, whether they were used or not. We have installed a dispenser that will guarantee we use the exact ratio of disinfectant and water as suggested by the manufacturer. A special thanks to Russell for helping acquire these cleaning materials.
In an attempt to limit exposure, coaches will be maintaining a 6 foot distance from athletes. Also, coaches will be required to wear a mask and disposable gloves during class. Masks will be changed out each day and gloves will be swapped out after every class. Thanks again to Russell for these necessary safety items.
Your coach will designate an individual workout area for you that will be marked with blue tape. When you arrive to class, your coach will have already placed any and all equipment you will need for that workout in your designated area. This measure will keep athletes from needing to get their own equipment, and will help your coaches identify exactly what equipment will need to be sanitized following class.
Hand Sanitizer Stations
We have set up 4 hand sanitizer stations. These stations are located at the gym entrance, inside both bathrooms, and at the exit of the gym.
In order to make sure our coaches can maintain these guidelines, we will be instituting the following operational changes effective Monday, May 18th. All of these changes are meant to ensure the health of safety of you, as well as your coaches.
Limited Class Sizes
The biggest change to our day to day operations will be the need to limit how many athletes can be in a single class. In order to meet the standards set by the state and the city, we must ensure that we can safely maintain social distancing. With that in mind, we have measured our space to determine our operational capacity. We will be limiting classes to 6 athletes. In order to follow this class limit in a fair manner, you must reserve a spot for class via ZenPlanner. If you don’t reserve a spot, you will not be allowed to workout.
We realize that this is going to be a HUGE change for us. But, it is essential in order to ensure everyone’s safety. Take a look at this video to see how to download the ZenPlanner App and how to log in. Once logged in, If you need help reserving a spot in a class or cancelling a reservation, check out this video. After watching this video, if you still have any questions or have technical difficulties, please do not hesitate to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will be happy to troubleshoot any issues.
Beginning Monday, our schedule will be as follows:
In order for the disinfectant to be effective, it must remain on the surface for 10 minutes to air dry. Since we will need to disinfect equipment between classes, we will be limiting classes to 45 minutes. Additionally, allowing a gap between classes will help maintain appropriate social distancing by having one class leave the building before the next class arrives.
What We’re Asking You to Do
Reserve Your Spot in Class
This is KEY! We cannot have more than 6 athletes per class. You will be able to sign up for a class on the ZenPlanner App with your phone (check out this video for a how-to ). We understand that schedules can change, and things may come up. We ask that if you cannot make a reserved class, you take the time to cancel your reservation on the ZenPlanner App. There will be a waitlist set up for any class that fills up. If someone ahead of you cancels their reservation for class, you will get a notification that a spot has opened up. If you do not reserve your spot prior to class time, you will not be allowed to workout.
Entry/Exit for Class
In order to maintain social distancing and to make sure we can direct you to your designated workout area, athletes will enter through the side door (NOT through the garage door). Please use hand sanitizer on the way in and a coach will direct you to your workout area. When class is finished, athletes will exit through the side door on the opposite side of the gym (by the rowers). Hand sanitizer will be available for you as you exit the gym.
If you need to use the bathroom during class, please use the bathroom on the same side as your designated workout area. You should wash your hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer before returning to your workout area. At this time, we will not be allowing the use of the showers. Please plan accordingly.
For safety reasons, we will be discontinuing the use of the water fountain at the gym. Please be sure to bring your own water bottle with you to workout.
Your coaches will be working ahead of class to bring the equipment you will need to your designated workout area. We ask that you do NOT leave your area to get any equipment. If you need something that is not already in your workout area, notify your coach, and he will get it for you. At the end of class, you should keep all items in your area for your coach to disinfect after class.
Instead of using the front desk area to keep your things, you should keep all belongings in your designated workout area. There will be enough space for you to safely complete the workout and store your things. You can check SugarWOD to view the workout in order to plan for what to bring with you.
Like you, we are SUPER excited to be back in the gym! As much as we enjoy the fist bumps and high fives following the workout, sadly, we are asking that you keep those fist bumps virtual by using the SugarWOD leaderboard. Trust us, it will be as difficult for your coaches to follow this rule as it will be for you; but, it is important in order to maintain the appropriate social distance from each other.
We understand that while the state and the city have determined it is safe for us to reopen, many of you may not feel comfortable enough at this time to join us in class. That is perfectly understandable! We will continue to supply the same online programming, videos, and coach’s notes that we have been providing through the end of the month. We will also continue to offer our 5:30pm Zoom class Monday through Friday, if there continues to be a need for it. If you do not feel ready to come to class right away, we look forward to seeing you at the gym whenever you feel comfortable!
We understand that this email contains a TON of information. If you have ANY questions at all, we encourage you to contact any of the owners or coaches, reach out to us on social media, or simply email us at email@example.com. We are happy to explain the rationale behind these operational changes and/or answer any questions you might still have about cleaning, class management, schedule, etc. The safety of our community is our top priority; therefore, any concerns you have are important for us to know and address.
You will see more communication from us over the weekend to make sure everyone knows exactly what to expect when they come back to gym for the first time. In the meantime, get on ZenPlanner and reserve your spot in classes for next week!
We look forward to working out with you!
Yours in Fitness,
